Summer Bucket List: Summer Reading Programs
If you have never participated in a summer reading program, you might want to head over to Life by Ashley Pichea and read the guest post I wrote about why I think everyone should add the summer reading program to their summer bucket list. It is easy and it’s free. That’s two bonus reasons why right there.
Ashley has put together a series of items for your summer bucket list and I’m honored to be kicking it off talking about the awesomeness that is the library summer reading program.
Science is Awesome
This year, most libraries are using a science theme. Our library system is huge and doing its own theme, but it is still centered around science. A lot of libraries are using Fizz Boom Read. We have some fun science-y stuff planned for you this summer on the blog, but here are a few resources to get you started.
- Fizz Boom Read Pinterest board – We have a fun Pinterest board where we pin science themed books, science experiments, science story time plans, anything science reading related.
- 11 Science Books for Hands-On Reading Fun – A post that I had a lot of fun putting together. Pick a book and do some experiments, how complicated is up to you.
- 10 Picture Books About Zoo Animals – Katie put this list together for our A to Z Challenge, read one or ten and then take a field trip to the zoo!
- Big List of Weather Books For Kids – Summer can provide many different weather experiences: heat, humidity, storms, and more.
- 8 Books About Rockets – Space exploration is a perfect fit for science summer reading! See also our U is for Universe list.
- 10 Books About Volcanoes – Or maybe your science reader would love some explosive reads.
- 11 Gardening Books for Beginning to Advanced Gardeners – Learn a new life skill and do some summer reading at the same time.
- Books About Inventors and Their Inventions – Science wouldn’t be science without inventors and other inquisitive minds.
