Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham (a review)Recently, I read Lauren Graham’s debut novel Someday, Someday, Maybe about a twenty-something aspiring actress living in New York City.

Frannie Banks wants to make it big in New York City, but she also doesn’t want to end up waitressing for years on end with no chances of an acting career in sight. She’s set a limit for herself: Stay in the City for three years, and if nothing pans out, find something else to do. The deadline is looming though, and her bank account is getting close to single digits.

The novel is loosely based on Graham’s own experiences of living in New York in the early 1990s. Those who love The Gilmore Girls will recognize the witty banter, and 90s junkies (like me) will love all of the pop culture references.

The story takes on a romantic turn or two with a couple of love interests thrown in the mix, but mostly the book looks at finding one’s identity, finding friends who remain faithful, and finding a path to happiness.

If you need a breezy, funny novel to read during the football game on Thanksgiving, I suggest giving this one a try.
